Signs of Life 2021...

3rd February, 2021
One year today since we planted trees at Kirk Yetholm for the 125th Anniversary of Friends of Nature.  Both seem to have become established, the Mountain Ash growing by circa 15cm and the Bird Cherry by 40 cm.  Great to see the snowdrops beginning to emerge, nature is waiting patiently to bring us new growth

Last year was not totally without hope.  We managed to get our 125 trees funded in the Highlands (well actually the total stands at 138 at time of writing) and a further 125 more locally in the Scottish Borders via Borders Forest Trust at Gameshope (near Selkirk).

Our 'Trees for Life' grove is ongoing and always available for trees to be added - a great place to dedicate a tree for a birthday, celebration or just a special day... you can write as much as you want on the web page which is a lasting reminder - it is fascinating reading thoughts from all parts of UK/Europe: https://treesforlife.org.uk/groves/g5482/

As Spring is on the horizon... we hope Covid-19 vaccines will roll-out TO ALL across the globe with an end to physical distancing and once again be able to see smiles instead of face coverings. Hang in there everyone!!

125 Trees for 125 Years: The Gift of Life

30th November, 2020

As we come to the end of 2020 what a strange year it has been.  With Covid-19 taking centre stage it seems like life has been on hold for so long.  As we look forward to a New Year we hope for better times and that the vaccines currently being trialled will be a way out.

What better way of showing hope for the future than tree planting...?  We are again supporting long established charity 'Trees for Life' in their project of rewilding Scotland and the fact that several of our volunteers are involved in organisation/tree planting

Plant the Gift of Life and let's get 125 trees in the ground!

  • Dedicate a tree for X-mas, Birthday, Celebration or as Memory... the choice is yours.  You can write near anything on our 'tree wall' page!
  • Tell us: 'What does Friends of Nature mean to you...?'  An ongoing blog from members around the globe of what the organisation means to them...  Why not add your thoughts in this special year and plant a tree in the process...

For people who love nature and the outdoors... a couple of trees in Scotland to raise the spirits... :)  Season's Greetings!

Naturefriends celebrate 125yrs of helping make the world a better place...

31st January, 2020

...you can follow via 125 events planned across the globe!

The Year is 1895:

The movement known as Naturfreunde (later known regionally as Naturefriends/Friends of Nature/Amis de la Nature,...) is formed in Vienna. Our journey has begun! ... read on below

Ever since its foundation, promoting sustainable development of both the environment and society has been at the heart of the Naturefriends movement. Over the last 125 years, Naturefriends around the world have implemented thousands of activities to champion this wide variety of causes: fighting for rights of way, developing environmentally and socially sustainable tourism and leisure-time offers, and promoting protection of the environment and nature, climate justice and international solidarity.

The international campaign “125 activities for sustainable development” aims to give an overview of the diversity of Naturefriends activities that have contributed to sustainable development or continue to do so. In addition to that, the anniversary congress of Naturefriends International, which is held on 13 June 2020 in Vienna, will adopt a list of demands with the aim of pointing out Naturefriends’ commitment to a good future for all people.

The individual activities will be presented with the hashtag #Naturefriends125activities on Facebook and Instagram during the year 2020:
